Bertha L. Kalkwarf - June 13, 2004

Bertha L. Kalkwarf, 87, of 417 W. Sixth St., Minonk, passed away at 8:30 p.m. Sunday (June 13, 2004) at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Minonk.

Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Petri Lutheran Church (Windtown), rural Flanagan. The Rev. Paul Lellelid will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of the service on Wednesday at the church. Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home, Minonk, is handling arrangements. Memorials may be directed to St. Petri Lutheran Church (Windtown), Flanagan; or Immanuel Lutheran Church, Minonk.

Mrs. Kalkwarf was born March 30, 1917, at Minonk, a daughter of Waite and Anna Hanson Flohr. She married Henry D. "Heinie" Kalkwarf on Feb. 6, 1937, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, rural Benson. He died Oct. 6, 2003.

Survivors include one son, Gene "Shorty" (Barb) Kalkwarf, Minonk; two daughters, Jane (Bill) Diaz, Pontiac, and Joan (the Rev. David) Seifert, Michigan City, Ind.; one sister, Edith Obert, Minonk; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and five sisters.

Bertha was a member of St. Petri Lutheran Church and sang in the church choir along with her husband for more than 50 years. She also served as a member of the church Mission Society at St. Petri. Together Bertha and Heinie upholstered furniture for several years. She enjoyed baking pies, cakes and crocheting.
